Bumble Books

introducing children to nature through fiction

Bumble Books is the children's imprint of Dragonfly Books and Arts and is an innovative independent publishing house, whose aim it to introduce children to nature through fiction, as such is ties in with the national curriculum. Professor Sir David Bellamy, Fiona Phillips (GMTV), Wildlife Trust Magazine, The Smallholder all have acknowledged the Trepets are a great concept for children to learn about nature and the wildlife around them.

The layout of the books is also unique in today's publishing market: the text is written in ovals on the page with black and white line drawings on the corners of every page, with additional pictures interspersed throughout, all drawn by an award winning artist.

The first book in the series

Tara the tiny Trepet lives with her parents, brothers and sisters in a great big oak tree on the edge of a big field. There have been Trepets living in the same tree for years and years. Trepets are only five centimetres tall, their faces a lovely golden brown, and beautiful pale blue eyes that shine like jewels, and when their noses glow they are able to fly.

This book has seven fun stories in which the Trepets meet frogs, moles, the Russian Trepets, have fun at Halloween and make instruments out of things they find!  Come and share their adventures as they explore nature and help the creatures they share their home with!

So who are the Trepets?  The Trepets are little tiny magical flying folk who live in an Oak Tree and are only 5 centimetres tall, and they take care of nature and wildlife around them. Their faces are a lovely golden brown and their eyes shine like jewels, and when their noses glow they are able to fly!  Their hair changes colour as they get older, starting white, turning into all the colours of autumn leaves when they are about 200.

Age range: 3 to 103! Very small children enjoy the stories read to them, and they are read independently and enjoyed by children from 6 to13 (like the Amelia Jane series).
